FRAY - Introduction

The choice of the most selected and refined materials, the wisdom of founder Lucia Pasin and the extraordinary manual skills of Fray’s workforce find expression through the use of exclusive techniques which, now just as its beginning, are implemented in all phases of the production cycle.
The production levels are strictly monitored. The care of the most minute details does not prevent, however, the utilization of traditional distribution channels, without neglecting up-and-coming markets, at the same time: such care ensures the unique élan of Fray’s products and its brand name in the most exclusive international stores.

The careful choice of yarn makes the subtle difference that personalizes and enhances the end result.
The tradition of hand work and the search for perfection are an essential component right from the initial stages of the working process at Fray.
Each piece (sides, sleeves, collars and cuffs) is individually cut by hand using cardboard patterns that respect the line chosen by the customer, in order to respect the grain of the fabric and to ensure pattern-continuity in the finished article.
The search for perfection, even in the most hidden details, is fundamentally important for the end result. The shoulder seams, the side seams, the wrist-slits in the sleeves, the front button-hole bands – all accurately made, without ever disregarding pattern-continuity.
The sleeves are set in and tacked by hand, making it possible to create variable width seams (gradually decreasing) for a perfect fit that is difficult to obtain with automatic machining processes.
Collars and cuffs are made in accordance with the customer’s specific requests (soft or stiff and with the exclusive “turned-over edge” technique) and attached to the body with the traditional “envelope” system.
There are no restrictions to a customer’s requests: lined fronts for lightweight fabrics or initials and family crests carefully embroidered by hand.
The stitching is done with very fine needles that allow up to 10 stitches per centimetre, clearly enhancing the end result.
Even the button-holes can, on request, be hand-sewn and the buttons are all in thick Australian mother-of-pearl, polished on the backs and with rounded edges to make buttoning easier.
All the parts of the shirt are carefully pressed with a hand iron.
The finished shirt is wrapped and protected in its impressive box.
The end result goes beyond mere appearance: it reflects purity of style and details, a search that tends towards perfecting what already exists, never towards change.
